Fourth rabies death reported in Lahore this year; PMA Lahore demands immediate crackdown
A 50-year-old man, Fareedullah, a resident of Pattoki in Tehsil Pattoki, District Kasur, has died of rabies in Lahore. He was bitten by a dog on his face and left arm on July 17, 2026.
This is the fourth death caused by rabies in Lahore during the current year. President of the Pakistan Medical Association Lahore, Professor Shahid Malik, expressed serious concern over the increasing number of rabies cases and urged the Government of Punjab, deputy commissioners, and relevant local government authorities to launch an immediate and comprehensive crackdown against stray and dangerous dogs.
He stated that under Clause 3 of the Punjab Local Government Act 2025, assistant commissioners have the authority to take action against dangerous animals. He called for the immediate enforcement of the law to prevent further loss of human lives.
PMA Lahore also demanded that an uninterrupted supply of anti-rabies vaccines and rabies immunoglobulin be ensured at all government hospitals and healthcare centres
