England cricket team’s young wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith made history in the second Test match against India.
The second match of the 5-Test series between England and India is currently underway in Birmingham, where on Friday, the third day of the match, the English wicketkeeper-batter etched his name in the record books by scoring a brilliant century in response to India’s first innings total of 587 runs.
Jamie Smith played an unbeaten innings of 184 runs against India, completing his Test century in just 80 balls.
With this outstanding performance, Jamie Smith created a new chapter in England’s cricket history.
The 24-year-old Jamie Smith became the highest individual scorer as a wicketkeeper-batter for England in Test cricket.
He broke a 28-year-old record held by former English wicketkeeper Alec Stewart.
Stewart had scored 173 runs against New Zealand in 1997, a record that had made him England’s highest-scoring wicketkeeper in a Test innings until now.
