US Says Strait of Hormuz Must Remain Open “By Any Means Necessary”: Marco Rubio

Washington: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open “by any means necessary,” emphasizing its critical importance for global energy and maritime trade.

According to international media reports, Rubio made the remarks while addressing questions about ongoing diplomatic efforts with Iran.

He said that discussions over the language and wording of a potential agreement with Iran could take several days, indicating that negotiations are still in progress.

Rubio noted that some discussions had recently taken place in Qatar, adding that significant work remains on the drafting of any preliminary agreement.

“The Strait of Hormuz has to remain open, by any means necessary,” he said in response to a question, underlining the strategic importance of the waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most vital oil transit routes, through which a large portion of global crude exports pass daily. Any disruption in the area is widely considered a major risk to international energy markets.

The US Secretary of State also commented on the situation in Ukraine, stating that there are currently no active or finalized negotiations taking place with Kyiv.

His remarks come amid ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Iran, the United States, and regional security concerns in the Middle East, particularly around maritime routes and energy supplies.

Analysts say Washington’s firm stance on the Strait of Hormuz reflects broader concerns over potential instability in the Gulf region, which could have significant global economic consequences.
