Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast further rain and snowfall in various parts of the country as another western weather system has entered Pakistan through Iran, bringing wet and cold conditions to several regions.

According to meteorological officials, the new western disturbance has moved into Balochistan, triggering rainfall and snowfall in different areas. As a result, weather conditions have deteriorated in both urban and mountainous regions, affecting daily life and transportation.

Heavy rainfall was reported in Chaman city and its surrounding areas, where torrential rain caused water accumulation in low-lying localities. Streets and residential areas were temporarily submerged, creating difficulties for residents and commuters. Local authorities have begun drainage efforts to clear water from affected areas.

In Quetta Valley and nearby regions, light snowfall was recorded, adding to the ongoing cold spell. The snowfall lowered temperatures significantly and increased the intensity of the cold, especially during nighttime and early morning hours. Similar conditions were reported from Ziarat and Qalat, where snowfall covered roads and open areas, disrupting routine activities.

The Meteorological Department has warned that the current weather system is likely to remain active until Tuesday, during which more rain and snowfall are expected across different parts of the country. Officials have advised citizens to remain cautious, particularly in mountainous and hilly regions where snowfall may lead to road closures and slippery conditions.

According to the PMD, rain is expected in Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, as well as in Murree and the Galiyat region. In higher-altitude and mountainous areas, snowfall is expected, which could disrupt transportation and communication links.

Weather experts say that western disturbances typically bring widespread precipitation during the winter season and play a significant role in lowering temperatures across northern and western parts of Pakistan. However, these systems can also cause temporary hardships, especially in remote and high-altitude areas.

In addition to northern regions, parts of Punjab, including Lahore and Multan, may also receive intermittent rainfall over the coming days. While the rain may provide some relief from dry weather, it could also lead to traffic congestion and reduced visibility in major cities.

Meteorologists noted that intermittent rain in Punjab is likely to be light to moderate, but residents have been advised to take precautions while traveling, particularly during peak hours. Farmers have also been urged to monitor weather updates, as rainfall may affect standing crops in some areas.

The PMD has highlighted that continuous snowfall in hilly regions could lead to road blockages, landslides, and power outages. Authorities in snow-prone areas have been instructed to keep snow-clearing machinery and emergency response teams on standby.

In northern regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, snowfall may intensify in higher elevations, potentially affecting access to remote valleys and villages. Local administrations have already issued advisories urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to stock essential supplies.

Meanwhile, cold weather conditions are expected to persist in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad, with rain further lowering temperatures. In Murree and Galiyat, snowfall is likely to attract tourists, but officials have cautioned visitors to follow safety guidelines and check road conditions before traveling.

Emergency services and disaster management authorities across the country have been placed on alert to respond to any weather-related emergencies. Rescue teams are prepared to assist stranded travelers and residents in case of road closures or accidents caused by slippery conditions.

Urban authorities in major cities have also been instructed to ensure proper drainage systems to prevent urban flooding, particularly in low-lying areas vulnerable to water accumulation during heavy rainfall.

The Meteorological Department has urged the public to stay updated through official weather bulletins and advisories. Citizens are advised to dress warmly, avoid exposure to extreme cold, and drive cautiously during rain or snowfall.

Health experts have also recommended precautionary measures, especially for children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory illnesses, as cold and damp conditions may increase the risk of seasonal diseases.
