Power Outage at Hyderabad’s Jamia Masjid Gulzar-e-Madina Sparks Public Outcry, Citizens Demand Immediate Transformer Replacement

For the past four days, residents and worshippers in Hyderabad have been facing severe hardship due to a prolonged power outage caused by the burning of a 25 kV transformer. The transformer, located in front of Shahbaz Building, supplies electricity to Jamia Masjid Gulzar-e-Madina, as well as nearby offices including the Madadgar Police Station, GOR Colony Police Station, and other facilities. Its failure has left the area in complete darkness and has particularly created immense difficulties for worshippers at the mosque.

According to local reports, the transformer malfunction has persisted without repair or replacement, leaving people frustrated with the indifference shown by the concerned electricity authorities. Worshippers at Jamia Masjid Gulzar-e-Madina have been forced to endure discomfort during their prayers, especially in the intense summer heat. The mosque, being a house of worship, requires uninterrupted electricity to facilitate prayer and gatherings. However, despite repeated complaints, no relief has been provided.

Citizens allege that the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) officials are displaying complete negligence when it comes to resolving technical faults that affect public welfare. Locals expressed disappointment, stating that when it comes to bill collection and revenue recovery, HESCO officials are quick to act and often harass ordinary citizens. Yet, when urgent technical issues such as transformer breakdowns occur, authorities fail to take timely action. Residents claim that sometimes transformers remain out of order for five or more consecutive days, but HESCO shows no readiness to address the problem unless personal benefit is involved.

Worshippers at the mosque, along with local residents, stressed that the failure to repair or replace the transformer highlights a lack of sensitivity towards the sanctity of a mosque, which is regarded as the house of God. The absence of electricity has made it nearly impossible for people to pray comfortably, especially during longer congregational prayers, religious lectures, and other gatherings.

The matter has now become a source of public anger. Community members and concerned citizens have demanded immediate intervention from higher authorities. In particular, appeals have been directed towards HESCO Chief Faizullah Dahri, AC Circle-I Suhail Ahmed Sheikh, the Executive Engineer of the Gadap Division, and the SDO of the City Division, urging them to act swiftly.

Residents have made it clear that the transformer on the main road near Jamia Masjid Gulzar-e-Madina must be replaced without any further delay. They stressed that it is unacceptable for worshippers to face such difficulties in a place of worship due to negligence from the authorities. They also highlighted that electricity failures not only affect the mosque but also disrupt vital police stations and administrative offices in the vicinity, posing a wider threat to law enforcement and governance in the area.

The citizens’ strong demands reflect broader frustrations with HESCO’s performance in Hyderabad. Complaints of repeated transformer failures, poor maintenance, and slow response times have been frequent across the city. Many residents argue that while ordinary people are burdened with rising electricity tariffs, they still suffer from hours-long outages due to neglected infrastructure.

Local voices emphasized that the problem has transcended beyond a technical fault—it has now become a matter of public accountability. They warned that if such negligence continues, it may lead to larger protests by the community, as people are no longer willing to tolerate prolonged outages, especially when they directly affect religious and civic institutions.

In conclusion, the burning of the 25 kV transformer near Shahbaz Building has once again exposed systemic inefficiencies in Hyderabad’s power management. Worshippers at Jamia Masjid Gulzar-e-Madina and residents of the surrounding area are appealing for urgent relief. They insist that the transformer be immediately replaced to restore electricity and allow citizens to perform their religious and daily duties without further distress. The ball is now in the court of HESCO leadership and district administration to respond quickly and responsibly before public dissatisfaction escalates further.
