Punjab’s flagship Green Tractor Scheme, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, continues to expand across the province as the government pushes to modernize agriculture and strengthen the rural economy. In another significant step under this initiative, 39 farmers in Jhelum received brand-new green tractors during a formal distribution ceremony attended by the Minister of State for Finance, Bilal Azhar Kayani.

The event marked another milestone in Punjab’s broader plan to support small and medium-scale farmers by providing subsidized tractors and modern equipment—an effort aimed at improving yields, reducing manual labor, and boosting overall agricultural productivity.

Distribution Ceremony in Jhelum, Dina, and Sohawa

The tractor distribution ceremony was held in Jhelum, where farmers from three tehsils — Jhelum, Dina, and Sohawa — gathered for the official handover of the vehicles. Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani personally distributed the tractors and interacted with the beneficiaries, many of whom expressed gratitude for the government’s efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector.

Kayani stated that the scheme is designed to empower local farmers by easing the financial burden of purchasing tractors. With subsidies covering a significant portion of the cost, the program aims to make modern farming equipment accessible to rural communities that would otherwise struggle to afford them.

He emphasized that 39 farmers were selected based on transparent criteria, ensuring fairness and equal opportunity across the region.

“Agriculture Is the Backbone of Pakistan’s Industry and Economy” — Bilal Azhar Kayani

In his address, Bilal Azhar Kayani highlighted the importance of agriculture in national development. He reiterated that Pakistan’s economy is deeply dependent on the performance of the agricultural sector, especially since it drives both rural livelihoods and industrial growth.

“Agriculture is the backbone of Pakistan and the backbone of our industrial development. The prosperity of farmers is directly linked with the progress of agriculture — and that in turn drives the success of Pakistan,” Kayani stated.

He added that by equipping farmers with modern machines, including tractors, super seeders, and other advanced tools, Punjab is entering a new era of mechanized farming. This transformation, he said, will drastically increase efficiency, reduce the time required for cultivation, and improve crop quality across the province.

A New Agricultural Era Powered by E-Mechanization

One of the key elements of the Green Tractor Scheme is the promotion of E-Mechanization, which integrates digital technology with modern agricultural machinery. This initiative aims to reduce traditional farming constraints by providing farmers with:

• Tractors at subsidized prices
• Training on modern equipment
• Access to advanced tools such as super seeders, rotavators, and laser levelers
• Support services to enhance crop management

Kayani emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that farmers are not only receiving machinery but also learning how to operate it effectively. Modern agriculture, he said, requires a blend of traditional knowledge and technological advancement.

The minister further stated that Punjab is preparing itself to become a hub of advanced agriculture, where innovation and technology drive sustainability and growth
