Over 74,000 Prospective Overseas Travelers Offloaded in Three Years, FIA Document Shows

ISLAMABAD: A total of 74,474 people intending to travel abroad were offloaded from flights over the past three years by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other government agencies, according to an official FIA document.

The document states that the FIA offloaded 39,786 individuals, while 34,688 others were prevented from traveling by various government agencies and institutions.

According to the document, 30,021 passengers were offloaded by different airlines, while 3,617 individuals did not continue with their travel plans for personal reasons. An additional 40 passengers were offloaded by Pakistan Customs, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), or the Airport Security Force (ASF).

The FIA document outlines several reasons for preventing passengers from traveling.

It states that 20,408 individuals were offloaded due to incomplete or missing travel documents, making it the most common reason cited.

Another 12,673 passengers were prevented from boarding because of what the FIA described as low-profile or suspicious travel plans, while 3,450 individuals were offloaded after their names were found on official stop lists.

The document further reveals that 505 passengers were stopped because they were using incorrect travel routes, while 281 individuals were offloaded after authorities detected forged or fake travel documents.

In addition, 176 passengers were prevented from traveling because of what the FIA termed an unsatisfactory travel history.

Authorities also offloaded 145 individuals to verify their travel documents before allowing them to proceed.

The report states that 258 underage individuals were stopped from traveling, while 24 people were offloaded after officials determined they intended to seek employment abroad despite traveling on visit visas.

The FIA regularly screens outbound passengers at airports to identify immigration violations, fraudulent travel documents, human smuggling attempts, and other irregularities.

The figures contained in the document reflect official FIA data covering a three-year period and illustrate the agency’s efforts to enforce immigration and travel regulations at Pakistan’s international airports.
