Addressing a large gathering at the Korangi Lawyers Forum, senior Supreme Court Advocate and current General Secretary of the High Court Bar Association, Sarfaraz Mirza, declared that he will formally challenge the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, just as he had previously challenged the 26th Amendment. He stated that the new amendment aims to grant the government excessive authority over the judiciary, which he described as a direct threat to the independence of judges, rule of law, and the fundamental democratic framework of Pakistan.

Sarfaraz Mirza emphasized that the legal community’s struggle is not limited to personal or professional interests but is a broader fight for the protection of constitutional supremacy and the rights of the people across Sindh and the entire country. He said, “We are fighting for the Constitution, for the rule of law, and for the protection of the rights of citizens, judges, and lawyers alike. I challenged the 26th Amendment earlier, and today I stand before the lawyers’ community to announce that we will challenge the 27th Amendment as well. This amendment is a clear violation of the Constitution and an attempt to bring the judiciary under government influence.”

He further stated that after the upcoming High Court Bar elections, a major movement will be launched across the province to mobilize the legal community and civil society against these constitutional amendments. He stressed that any attempt to undermine judicial independence will be resisted with full democratic strength.

During the session, several prominent members of the legal profession expressed their support for Sarfaraz Mirza. Among those who addressed the gathering were Sarfarosh Suhail Akhtar Siddiqui, Chairman of the Korangi Lawyers Forum; General Secretary Syed Rahmat Ali Rahmani; High Court Advocates Aqeel Zahidi and Ghulam Raza Khokhar; and Advocate Muhammad Sheikh Shoaib Qadri. They assured their full support to Sarfaraz Mirza in both legal and electoral struggles.

Former Vice President Karachi Bar, Shams-ul-Huda Advocate, and former General Secretary Karachi Bar, Fariad Ahmed Advocate, also voiced strong support, noting that Sarfaraz Mirza has a longstanding history of serving the legal community and that his leadership has earned the trust of lawyers across Sindh. Supreme Court Advocate Khalid Mumtaz, High Court Advocate Qaiser Usmani, and Advocate Anees Khanzada stated that Sarfaraz Mirza represents a voice of integrity and commitment among the Rajput lawyer community and has their complete backing.

It was also highlighted that Sarfaraz Mirza is a candidate for the post of General Secretary of the Sindh Bar Council for the upcoming 2026 term. He has previously won key elections with a significant majority, demonstrating the consistent confidence placed in him by the legal fraternity. He assured that he will continue to uphold that trust and work tirelessly for the welfare of lawyers.

Listing his past initiatives, he said that under his leadership, lawyers have been provided medical treatment support of up to ten lakh rupees per individual. Additionally, allotments were facilitated for lawyers in residential housing schemes to help them secure permanent homes. Sarfaraz Mirza also announced plans for the establishment of a dedicated hospital for lawyers, noting that many lawyers who travel from remote districts lack the financial resources to receive adequate treatment in Karachi’s medical facilities.

He expressed pride in the strong support from young lawyers across Sindh, acknowledging their role in strengthening democratic and professional institutions within the legal field. A large number of lawyers from Karachi, Kandhkot, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Larkana, Padidan, Sujawal, Thatta, Umerkot, Sukkur, Khairpur, Jacobabad, and Nawabshah attended the event to show solidarity with him. He thanked them for their commitment and continued support.

Approximately ten former General Secretaries and Presidents of the Karachi Bar Association were also present and formally announced their full endorsement of Sarfaraz Mirza’s campaign and constitutional stance.

Towards the end of the gathering, the hall echoed with loud slogans of “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Sarfaraz Mirza Zindabad.” The atmosphere was filled with applause as the participants honored him with a traditional Sindhi Ajrak as a symbol of respect.
