In a powerful show of solidarity with the country’s agricultural workers, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) organized a major protest rally in Sanghar under the slogan “Give the farmers their rights, give Pakistan its due.” The demonstration, held in front of the Sanghar Press Club, was aimed at drawing attention to the plight of the farming community and demanding fair compensation, better input supplies, and consistent water distribution to sustain agricultural productivity.

The rally was led by Afzal Arain, the Vice Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh, and was addressed by several senior party figures, including Zaheer Babar Jatoi, Raja Waseem, and other local leaders. A large number of JI workers, representatives of farmers’ organizations, social activists, and concerned citizens participated, waving party flags and chanting slogans for agricultural justice.

Participants carried banners demanding that the government immediately fix fair and stable prices for agricultural produce and ensure regular supplies of fertilizers, quality seeds, and irrigation water. The demonstrators argued that these measures were essential not only to protect farmers’ livelihoods but also to safeguard Pakistan’s food security and economic stability.

Speeches Call Out Economic Injustice and Neglect of Farmers

Addressing the gathering, Afzal Arain emphasized that Pakistan’s economy was fundamentally rooted in agriculture, yet the farmers — who form the backbone of this sector — remain the most deprived class. “The prosperity of Pakistan depends on the prosperity of its farmers,” he declared. “When the farmer suffers, the entire nation suffers.”

Arain criticized both federal and provincial governments for failing to protect cultivators from exploitation by middlemen, hoarders, and unfair market mechanisms. “While the ruling elite reap profits, the small farmer is forced to sell his produce below cost, burdened by the rising prices of fertilizers, electricity, and diesel,” he said. “This exploitation cannot continue. The farmer’s struggle is the nation’s struggle.”
