First Supermoon of the Year to Shine Tonight — Visible Across Pakistan
The first supermoon of 2025 will illuminate the skies tonight, offering skywatchers a spectacular celestial view.
According to the spokesperson of SUPARCO, during the supermoon, the Moon will be about 224,000 miles from Earth — appearing 6.6% larger and 13% brighter than a typical full moon.
The phenomenon will be visible across Pakistan. The Moon will rise from the east shortly after sunset and set in the west before sunrise, allowing viewers ample time to enjoy the rare sight.
SUPARCO further stated that two more supermoons will occur later this year. The brightest one is expected on November 5, 2025, while the third and final supermoon of the year will appear on December 5, 2025.
Astronomers explain that a supermoon occurs when the Moon, in its elliptical orbit, reaches its closest point to Earth. This proximity makes it appear significantly larger and more luminous than usual — a phenomenon that continues to captivate stargazers around the world.
