Saudi Prince Passes Away After 20 Years in Coma Following London Car Accident

Riyadh (Sunday, July 20, 2025) – Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid Al Saud, who remained in a coma for more than two decades following a horrific car accident in London, has passed away at the age of 36.

According to the New York Post, Prince Al-Waleed was just 15 years old when he suffered a traumatic brain hemorrhage and internal bleeding as a result of the 2005 accident.

Nicknamed the “Sleeping Prince,” Al-Waleed was placed on a ventilator in the hospital and never regained full consciousness. He was the eldest son of Prince Khalid bin Talal Al Saud, who confirmed the passing of his son with a heartbreaking message on social media platform X.

Quoting a verse from the Quran, Prince Khalid wrote:
“With believing hearts and in submission to God’s will and decree, we mourn the death of our son, Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. May Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today.”

At the time of the accident, Prince Al-Waleed was studying at a military college in London. Following the crash, he was transferred to King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he remained in a coma for nearly 20 years.

His father, Prince Khalid, never gave up hope that his son would recover and was actively involved in his care. He firmly rejected any calls to remove life support, believing his son would eventually regain consciousness.

Following the announcement of his death, the hashtag “Sleeping Prince” began trending on social media, with thousands offering condolences. One user wrote, “May Allah grant Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid’s soul paradise. Our heartfelt sympathies to his family.” Another said, “Your time in this world was a blessing for your family and the world.” A third added, “May Allah grant peace to his gentle soul.”

The funeral prayer for Prince Al-Waleed will be held today at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
