Pakistan Backs Bahrain and Russia Resolutions at the UN

Pakistan has supported resolutions presented by Bahrain and Russia at the United Nations.

Asim Iftikhar, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, stated that Pakistan also condemned attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel. He noted that two Pakistani citizens were killed in Iranian attacks on the United Arab Emirates, and warned that such strikes threaten global peace.

Speaking at the UN Security Council, Asim Iftikhar expressed hope that attacks on Gulf countries would stop immediately, and that navigation rights and freedoms in the Strait of Hormuz would not be affected. He emphasized that the affected nations should not face the severe consequences of war and that Pakistan stands in full solidarity with their governments and people.

Pakistan also viewed positively a draft resolution presented by Russia, prepared under the framework of the UN Charter. The resolution urges all parties to immediately cease military activities, avoid further escalation, and return to negotiations, a stance fully aligned with Pakistan’s overall position.

The Security Council approved a resolution condemning Iran’s attacks on neighboring countries, demanding that Iran halt strikes on Gulf states. However, the ceasefire resolution proposed by Russia failed, receiving 4 votes in favor and 2 against, while 9 members were absent.
