Teen Girl Killed in Moving Rickshaw Amid Police Encounter in Landhi, Karachi

Karachi – A tragic incident occurred in the Landhi area of Karachi when a 17-year-old girl was shot dead while traveling in a moving rickshaw. According to police, the fatal bullet came from an unknown direction during a police encounter in the vicinity.

The deceased, identified as Komal, was a student of the 11th grade. She was riding in the rickshaw along with her younger brother on their way back from their cousin’s house when the incident took place near the Chiragh Hotel area. The stray bullet struck Komal, proving fatal on the spot.

Police officials clarified that at the time of the shooting, officers from Korangi Number 6 and the Awami Colony Police Station were engaged in a shootout with a gang of robbers who had allegedly just committed a robbery at a nearby bank. The exchange of gunfire between police and the criminals created chaos, during which Komal was hit by a bullet from an unknown source.

During the operation, one suspect, identified as Mola Bakhsh, was apprehended in a wounded state. However, his accomplice managed to escape. Footage from the scene shortly after the incident has surfaced, showing the intensity of the gunfire exchange.

The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who have demanded accountability and protection for civilians during police operations.

Responding to the tragedy, SSP Korangi, Fida Hussain Janwari, took notice of Komal’s death and ordered the formation of a three-member investigative committee, led by SDPO Landhi, Faiza Sudhar. The committee has been tasked with conducting a transparent investigation into the shooting and submitting a detailed report on its findings.

Authorities emphasized that the inquiry will focus on determining how the stray bullet hit Komal, whether proper protocols were followed during the police encounter, and what measures can be implemented to prevent such incidents in the future.

Police officials have expressed deep regret over the loss of an innocent life and assured the public that all efforts will be made to bring justice to Komal and her family. “Our priority is to ensure accountability and prevent any recurrence of such tragic incidents during law enforcement operations,” an officer said.

The tragic death of Komal has once again highlighted the risks faced by civilians in densely populated urban areas where police operations often take place in close proximity to residential neighborhoods. Local authorities are now reviewing protocols to minimize civilian casualties during armed encounters.

Residents of Landhi expressed shock and grief over the incident, saying that Komal’s death was an avoidable tragedy. Community leaders called for stricter operational guidelines to protect innocent bystanders while law enforcement carries out its duties.

According to the police, Mola Bakhsh, the wounded suspect, was involved in a string of robberies and had been under surveillance for his activities. His accomplice, still at large, is being actively pursued, with security forces checking multiple escape routes in and around Landhi.

The investigative committee will also examine whether communication gaps or lapses in operational planning contributed to the incident, and recommendations will be made to improve coordination between units during high-risk encounters.

Meanwhile, Komal’s family is in mourning, struggling to cope with the sudden and tragic loss. Community members have pledged support to ensure the family receives justice. Local authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident or the suspects involved to come forward to aid the investigation.

This tragic incident underscores the need for enhanced safety measures for civilians during police operations in busy urban centers. Authorities have promised that the investigation will be impartial and that lessons learned from the case will inform future operational strategies to safeguard innocent lives.

As Karachi continues to face challenges related to street crime and law enforcement encounters, incidents such as this highlight the delicate balance between maintaining public safety and ensuring the protection of civilians. The city’s police administration has reiterated its commitment to minimizing collateral damage while effectively combating criminal activity.

The investigative committee is expected to submit its findings soon, after which law enforcement authorities will announce further measures aimed at improving operational safety protocols. The case has garnered significant attention, reflecting broader concerns about civilian safety in high-crime areas during active police engagements.
