In a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, officials reviewed Pakistan’s current fuel reserves and ongoing public relief measures. The meeting included discussions on implementing fuel conservation initiatives and progress on the austerity campaign, with an audit report presented by the Intelligence Bureau highlighting these efforts. Authorities confirmed that sufficient fuel reserves exist to meet national requirements, and arrangements are being made for future needs.
The briefing also indicated that the country has ample stocks of essential medicines. Furthermore, recent increases in levies on high-octane fuel for large vehicles have not affected jet fuel prices, ensuring stability in critical sectors.
Highlighting the government’s achievements in maintaining petroleum supply, the Prime Minister noted that measures have been taken to ensure the availability of petroleum products across the country. He emphasized that the government initiated a series of sacrifices, starting with cuts in official expenditures, reductions in development budgets, and the immediate decommissioning of 60% of government vehicles.
Shehbaz Sharif stated that proposals to raise fuel prices were repeatedly rejected, and the funds saved through austerity measures were redirected to provide relief to the public. By leveraging digital systems, the government aims to ensure that relief reaches ordinary citizens efficiently.
The Prime Minister reiterated that additional support is being planned for economically vulnerable and middle-class citizens. Despite ongoing challenges, timely government decisions have ensured uninterrupted fuel supply, a result he attributed to both prudent management and divine grace.
In addition to domestic economic efforts, the Prime Minister mentioned that Pakistan continues to make strong diplomatic efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
