ISLAMABAD: Technical-level negotiations between the United States and Iran under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) are scheduled to take place on June 21 in Switzerland, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Office.

The talks will be held in the Swiss town of Bürgenstock and are expected to bring together representatives from the United States, Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar. The meeting is being organized as a follow-up to the Islamabad Memorandum, which was signed as part of broader diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and advancing dialogue between the two countries.

Pakistan to Continue Facilitating the Process

In an official statement, the Foreign Office spokesperson said that Pakistan would continue to play a facilitative role in the negotiations and remain committed to supporting the implementation of the understandings reached under the Islamabad Memorandum.

“The technical-level discussions are being held as a follow-up to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that Pakistan’s objective is to help move forward the consensus achieved through the agreement and to contribute positively to regional peace and stability.

“Pakistan will continue to facilitate the negotiation process as a mediator. Our aim is to advance the understandings reached under the Islamabad Memorandum and support ongoing peace efforts,” the statement said.

US Vice President Optimistic About Progress

Meanwhile, US Vice President J.D. Vance expressed optimism regarding the upcoming negotiations, indicating that discussions with Iran were progressing in a constructive manner.

Speaking about the talks, Vance said that negotiations with Iran were expected to take place as planned and that developments so far appeared encouraging.

“Things are going well regarding negotiations with Iran,” he said.

The vice president also noted that he might travel to Switzerland within the next two days. According to his remarks, senior American officials involved in the diplomatic effort, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are already present there in preparation for the talks.

Iranian Delegation Heading to Switzerland

On the Iranian side, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that the Iranian negotiating team would depart for Switzerland shortly.

He stated that the Iranian delegation would seek implementation of the commitments outlined in the memorandum and would emphasize the importance of all parties fulfilling their obligations.

According to Baghaei, Iran believes it has honored its commitments and expects the other side to do the same.

“We have fulfilled our responsibilities and commitments,” he said.

The Iranian spokesperson further argued that the United States is obligated to ensure that Israel halts military actions in Lebanon, describing the issue as an important element of the broader understanding between the parties.

Warning Over Compliance

Baghaei warned that the agreement could face difficulties if commitments made by the other side are not respected.

“If the other party does not honor its promises, the understanding could be placed at risk,” he said.

He stressed that necessary measures must be taken promptly to preserve the diplomatic process and maintain confidence among the participating parties.

The Iranian official also stated that Tehran reserves the right to take reciprocal measures if commitments are ignored or implementation is delayed.

The negotiations are being closely watched by regional and international observers, as they represent another step in efforts to improve communication and reduce tensions between Washington and Tehran.
