Prime Minister Condemns Drone Attack on UAE Nuclear Plant

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the reported drone attack on the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates, expressing solidarity with the UAE leadership and its people.

In an official statement issued from the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan condemns the drone attack targeting the nuclear energy facility in the UAE and stands firmly with the brotherly nation during this difficult time.

“We express complete solidarity with the leadership and the brotherly people of the United Arab Emirates,” the prime minister stated.

He further urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and fulfill their responsibilities in accordance with international law in order to prevent further escalation in the region.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only practical path toward achieving lasting regional peace, stability, and de-escalation of tensions.

“Negotiations and diplomacy are the only viable way forward for durable regional peace, stability, and reduction of tensions,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson also issued a separate statement condemning the reported attack and warning about the serious consequences of targeting civilian nuclear infrastructure.

According to the Foreign Office, deliberately attacking a nuclear energy facility constitutes a violation of international law and also breaches internationally accepted nuclear safety principles.

The spokesperson stressed that civilian nuclear installations should never be targeted under any circumstances because such attacks could result in catastrophic consequences for human lives, the environment, and global peace and security.

“Attacks on civilian nuclear facilities can have devastating implications for people, the environment, and international stability,” the statement added.

The reported incident has raised concerns internationally due to the sensitive nature of nuclear infrastructure and the potential risks associated with attacks on energy facilities.

The Barakah Nuclear Power Plant is the UAE’s first nuclear energy facility and plays a major role in the country’s energy production and long-term energy diversification strategy.

Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates share close diplomatic, economic, and strategic relations, and Islamabad has repeatedly expressed support for the UAE on matters concerning regional security and stability.

The prime minister’s statement comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, where regional conflicts and security incidents have increased concerns about broader instability and risks to critical infrastructure.

International observers and diplomatic circles continue to stress the importance of restraint, dialogue, and adherence to international law to avoid further escalation in the region.
