ANKARA: U.S. President Donald Trump said he no longer wants to negotiate with Iran, adding that he believes the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two sides is effectively over.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the NATO Secretary General in Ankara, Trump also expressed dissatisfaction with NATO over issues relating to Greenland and Iran.

“I don’t want to make a deal with the Iranians,” Trump said. “I think the memorandum of understanding is over.”

He further claimed that the ceasefire with Iran had ended and reiterated his administration’s position that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons.

“If Iran had nuclear weapons, they would use them,” Trump said, adding that he did not want to “waste time” negotiating with Tehran.

The U.S. president also stated that American forces had carried out strikes against Iran the previous night, saying Tehran had been warned that any attack would be met with a response.

“Our objective is to ensure Iran does not possess nuclear capability,” Trump said. “We will make sure Iran is non-nuclear.”

Trump described Iran as a threat, alleging that it targets many people, including himself.

Using a medical analogy, he compared the Iran issue to cancer, saying it should be dealt with at an early stage. “You know what is done with cancer? It is cut out early. That is my view regarding Iran,” he said.

Meanwhile, according to an international news agency, global oil prices rose by about 5 percent following Trump’s remarks that the ceasefire with Iran had ended, reflecting renewed concerns over regional tensions and their potential impact on energy supplies.
