President Zardari Expresses Solidarity with Flood Victims, Urges Preparedness

ISLAMABAD – President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed deep sorrow over the widespread destruction caused by heavy rains and floods in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the President conveyed condolences to families affected by the natural calamity and assured them of the nation’s solidarity during this difficult time.

The President particularly acknowledged the devastating impact on the agricultural sector, noting with regret the large-scale losses suffered by farmers whose crops and livestock have been washed away. He stressed that such damage not only undermines rural livelihoods but also poses a broader threat to national food security.

Calling for immediate and proactive measures, President Zardari directed the Sindh government to prepare for potential heavy flood surges, warning that precautionary steps now could help minimize human and economic losses later. He underlined that disaster management required both swift government intervention and community cooperation.

Expressing confidence in the resilience of the people of Pakistan, the President stated, “I firmly believe that our nation will face these hardships with courage and determination. Just as we overcame the devastating floods of 2010 and 2022, we will once again rise above this challenge.”

President Zardari also praised the role of the armed forces, noting their longstanding tradition of coming to the aid of citizens in times of crisis. He said that during past disasters, the Pakistan Army had set “a remarkable example of service to the people,” and he expressed hope that this spirit of solidarity would continue to guide national relief efforts.

The President’s remarks come at a time when multiple provinces are experiencing severe flooding, displacing thousands of families and damaging critical infrastructure. Relief operations are currently underway, but officials warn that further rainfall and river surges may worsen the crisis.
