Lahore: (Monday, June 23, 2025) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that widowed women are being given not only sympathy but also rights and support. On the occasion of International Widows Day, in a powerful message, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that the religion of Islam prioritizes respect, dignity, and full rights for widowed women, and it is the responsibility of society not to leave such women alone.

She said that the widowed women resulting from the ongoing wars in Kashmir, Gaza, and now Iran pose a sharp question for global conscience, and their hardships require not just sympathy but practical support as well.

She added that the Punjab government is giving special priority to widowed women and single mothers under its “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” (Our Roof, Our Home) program so that they can live with dignity. Moreover, the children of such women are also being included on a priority basis in the “Hoshiar Scholarship” program so that no further obstacles come in their path to education.

Maryam Nawaz further said that the Women Protection Authority has directed the Social Welfare Department to ensure full support for widowed women and provide them with all possible government assistance. She expressed her intention that no widow in Punjab should ever feel alone and that the state will always stand by them in their time of need.
