PIMS fire: Inquiry committee starts its work

An inquiry committee formed on the directions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has started its work as committee led by former Federal Secretary Shahid Khan reached PIMS Hospital along with Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Main.

Retired Federal Secretary Shahid Khan is heading the committee, while Major General (retd) Dr Khurshid Utra, Dr Barrister Nabeel Ahmed Awan and Deputy Commissioner Islamabad are serving as members.

The committee will investigate the cause and timeline of the fire and review the emergency response, evacuation of newborns and implementation of fire safety measures at PIMS.

It will also determine any negligence or responsibility in the incident and recommend reforms to prevent such tragedies in the future. 

The committee will submit an interim report with urgent recommendations to the Prime Minister within 48 hours, while a comprehensive report will be submitted within five days.

The Ministry of National Health has been directed to immediately notify the committee and provide necessary assistance. The committee’s terms of reference were released in the notification as well.
