Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has announced that a legal case will be filed against former Adiala Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, alleging criminal negligence in the medical treatment of PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Salman Akram Raja claimed that a crime had been committed against the PTI founder and that responsibility lies with the former jail superintendent. He stated that formal legal proceedings would be initiated against Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, asserting that the matter concerns serious negligence regarding Imran Khan’s deteriorating eyesight.

According to Raja, Imran Khan has said that vision in one of his eyes has not been restored and that he can now only perceive light. He emphasized that the former prime minister should receive medical treatment from doctors whom he and his family trust. Raja alleged that despite repeated complaints about pain and vision problems in his eye, only basic eye drops were administered instead of comprehensive medical care.

The statement follows earlier revelations in a report submitted to the Supreme Court, in which Imran Khan disclosed that his right eye vision had deteriorated by approximately 85 percent. The report indicated that he experienced persistent blurriness for months before his condition worsened significantly.

Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, also spoke to the media and expressed deep concern over her brother’s medical situation. She alleged that for several weeks the family was not informed about the seriousness of his eye condition. According to her, Imran Khan repeatedly complained over a period of three months that he was unable to see properly, but no effective action was taken.

Aleema Khan stated that the former jail superintendent had been informed about the eye problem for months. She further claimed that not only the superintendent but also officials monitoring the prison through surveillance cameras were aware of the issue. She alleged that authorities had observed for at least two weeks that Imran Khan’s eye condition had worsened significantly, yet failed to respond appropriately.

Calling the situation deeply troubling, Aleema Khan said it was heartbreaking that better care had not been provided to someone who has been incarcerated for over two and a half years. She demanded that his medical treatment be arranged immediately at Shifa International Hospital and under the supervision of his personal physician.

She also dismissed rumors suggesting that Imran Khan might be shifted to his residence in Bani Gala, describing such reports as false. According to her, the PTI founder has made it clear that he will not bow down under pressure.

Salman Akram Raja reiterated that the alleged negligence amounts to a criminal offense and that accountability is necessary. He maintained that prison authorities had a duty of care to ensure timely and adequate medical treatment. Failure to do so, he argued, directly contributed to the deterioration of Imran Khan’s eyesight.

The issue has intensified the political debate surrounding the former prime minister’s incarceration and medical care. PTI leaders accuse jail authorities of deliberate negligence, while government officials have previously stated that appropriate facilities and medical attention are being provided in accordance with the law.

As the controversy unfolds, PTI has signaled its intention to pursue legal action to hold the former jail superintendent accountable. The party maintains that Imran Khan’s health must be treated as a priority and that independent, trusted medical professionals should oversee his treatment.
