The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave warning for Sindh, forecasting a sharp rise in temperatures across the province between May 25 and May 31.

According to the PMD, temperatures in Sindh may remain up to 6°C above normal during this period, significantly increasing the risk of extreme heat conditions. Officials warned that several districts in interior Sindh could experience temperatures as high as 50°C.

Meteorologists said the prolonged spell of intense heat is likely to affect daily life, agriculture, and public health, particularly in rural and densely populated areas where access to cooling and water resources may be limited.

In its advisory, the PMD urged citizens, farmers, and elderly individuals to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight, especially during peak daytime hours when temperatures are expected to be at their highest.

Health experts caution that prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke. Vulnerable groups, including children and senior citizens, are advised to take extra precautions, stay hydrated, and remain indoors as much as possible.

Authorities have also recommended adjusting working hours for outdoor laborers and agricultural workers to reduce exposure during the hottest parts of the day.

The heatwave alert comes as Pakistan continues to experience increasingly severe weather patterns in late spring and early summer, with Sindh among the most affected regions due to its geographic and climatic conditions.

Officials are expected to continue monitoring the situation closely and may issue further advisories if temperatures rise beyond predicted levels.
