Twitter co-founder and current CEO of a company called Block, Jack Dorsey, has introduced a new messaging platform to compete with WhatsApp.

The new decentralized messaging app, named Bitkey, operates on a Bluetooth mesh network.

This means the app can be used even without an internet connection. It doesn’t require any server, nor does it need a phone number or email to sign in.

Jack Dorsey announced in an X (Twitter) post that the beta version of the app has gone live on TestFlight, and the full white paper is available on GitHub.

In his post, he described it as a personal experience over Bluetooth mesh networks, with messages being end-to-end encrypted.

The app enables encrypted communication between nearby devices.

In other words, users will be able to exchange messages with each other via local Bluetooth networks, and chatting will be possible even when Wi-Fi or cellular service is unavailable.

Messages sent through this app will be stored only on the device and will be deleted by default.
