Doha: The first round of ceasefire negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas ended without any breakthrough in Qatar.

According to Palestinian sources quoted by a British news agency, the initial round of indirect talks in Doha between Hamas and Israel concluded without any outcome.

Sources revealed that the Israeli delegation lacked the authority to finalize a binding agreement, which contributed to the talks ending in deadlock.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had stated on Saturday night that Hamas’s latest demands were unacceptable for Israel, but despite that, he was sending a high-level negotiation team to Doha.

It’s worth noting that recently, Hamas gave a positive response to Qatari and U.S.-mediated proposals regarding a ceasefire and prisoner exchange in Gaza.

U.S. President Donald Trump also claimed that Israel had agreed to the terms of a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza.

On Sunday, while speaking to reporters in New Jersey, President Trump said:

“We have a good chance of reaching an agreement with Hamas this week. Some hostages might be released. I’ll also be discussing a permanent deal involving Netanyahu and Iran.”
