Odeerolal: Students and Parents Protest Against Teacher Transfer at Government Boys Primary School Moharram Koso

Odeerolal (Reporter Abdul Aziz Morujo): Students and parents at Government Boys Primary School Moharram Koso, located in Odeerolal Station, staged a protest march and sit-in against the transfer of a highly regarded teacher, highlighting the disparity between the Sindh Education Department’s STR (Student-Teacher Ratio) policy and ground realities.

The protest reflects growing concerns about the negative impact of the STR policy on the functioning of educational institutions across Sindh. A recently released STR report exposed a clear injustice at this well-reputed school under the Town Committee of Odeerolal Station.

Despite having over 180 students enrolled, the school, which requires four teachers according to STR norms, currently has only two teachers serving. Under a combination of alleged administrative incompetence and favoritism, one of the school’s most dedicated and high-performing teachers, Nursing Mal, who had significantly contributed to the school’s reputation and quality of education, was transferred away. This decision, according to parents and students, has severely jeopardized students’ future and the overall learning environment.

In response, students and parents approached the media, expressing their strong dissatisfaction with the transfer. They emphasized that the removal of a key teacher has disrupted the educational environment, affecting both teaching quality and student learning outcomes.

The protesters demanded the immediate reinstatement of Nursing Mal to the school. They warned that if their demands are not met, they may escalate their protest, including blocking the main highway to draw attention to the issue.

Speaking to the media, students and parents stressed that access to quality education is a fundamental right, which they intend to secure from the Sindh government by all means. They also called upon senior officials and the Education Minister, Syed Sardar Shah, to take urgent notice of the matter and address the administrative oversight promptly.

The incident has sparked wider concerns about STR implementation in Sindh, where policy prescriptions are often misaligned with actual requirements, leaving schools understaffed and students underserved. Education activists argue that unless such discrepancies are corrected, the quality of public education will continue to decline, impacting future generations.
