Islamabad, August 24, 2025 – Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasized the strategic necessity for Pakistan’s economy to transition toward blockchain technology and digital assets, highlighting that adopting blockchain and establishing a balanced regulatory framework for youth-led digital assets is a pressing need of the hour.

Speaking at a conference on digital assets, the finance minister underlined blockchain’s crucial role in enhancing financial inclusion, transparency, and innovation across economic sectors. He stressed that leveraging these technologies is vital for ensuring Pakistan remains competitive in the evolving digital economy.

Youth Engagement in Digital Economy

Aurangzeb highlighted that 10 to 15 percent of Pakistanis are currently involved in digital businesses, with a significant proportion being youth entrepreneurs. He said that empowering young people through digital asset platforms not only creates employment opportunities but also accelerates the adoption of modern financial technologies in the country.

The minister pointed out that digital assets, combined with blockchain technology, could significantly increase efficiency and trust in financial transactions while fostering innovative business models that cater to both local and international markets.

Need for a Balanced Regulatory Approach

Emphasizing the importance of governance, the finance minister called for a balanced regulatory framework developed in collaboration with the private sector. Such a framework would ensure that the growth of digital assets is well-regulated without stifling innovation or discouraging youth-led startups.

Aurangzeb stated, “For a new economy to flourish, it is imperative to promote financial inclusion, transparency, and operational efficiency, while encouraging entrepreneurship through proper regulatory mechanisms.”
