OpenAI has launched a significant new update in ChatGPT, introducing a personalization page that allows users to tailor the chatbot’s responses to their unique needs and preferences.

The company’s CEO, Sam Altman, recently announced this feature in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

With this update, users can now choose from a variety of personality options such as Cynic, Robot, Listener, and Nerd. Each personality mode offers a distinct interaction style, enabling users to shape their conversations depending on whether they want logical, empathetic, witty, or highly technical replies.

Another important feature is the Custom Instructions prompt section, where users can define how ChatGPT should respond. This gives them greater control over tone, style, and level of detail—ensuring answers are more relevant to personal or professional contexts.

The personalization page also includes dedicated sections where users can:

• Specify how they want to be addressed by the chatbot.
• Enter their interests and preferences, helping the AI align its responses with topics they care about.
• Manage privacy with a reference chat history toggle, allowing users to turn ChatGPT’s memory on or off based on their comfort level.

The goal of this update is to make conversations with ChatGPT feel more personal, engaging, and closer to talking with a trusted friend or companion.

To access the feature, users simply need to open ChatGPT settings and select the Personalization option.

This rollout marks another step in OpenAI’s effort to make AI not just powerful, but also adaptive, user-friendly, and human-centered.
