JI announces nationwide sit-ins from August 16 over petrol hike
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced nationwide sit-ins from August 16 against the petroleum levy and high petrol prices.
The decision was taken at a special meeting chaired by JI amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, attended by senior party leaders and provincial and major-city chiefs through video link.
The meeting decided to postpone the sit-ins originally planned for August 9 so that Independence Day celebrations could be held across the country.
The protests will now begin simultaneously in all four provinces on August 16.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said a major sit-in would be held outside the Punjab Chief Minister’s House in Lahore, while protests would take place outside the governor houses in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan.
