Pakistan expresses solidarity with quake-hit Colombians
Pakistan has expressed grief and sorrow over the huge loss of lives and widespread devastation caused by a powerful earthquake in Colombia.
In a post uploaded on his X platform account Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wrote “Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives and widespread devastation caused by the powerful earthquake in Colombia.”
Shehbaz Sharif said “On behalf of the people and Government of Pakistan, I extend my heartfelt condolences to President Abelardo De La Espriella, the people of Colombia, and all the families who have lost their loved ones.”
The prime minister further said “Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured and all those affected by this tragedy. Pakistan stands in solidarity with the people of Colombia in this difficult hour.”
As on Tuesday, Colombian volunteers and rescuers sifted through rubble with bare hands and buckets, hunting for survivors following a massive 7.4-magnitude quake that has claimed the lives of at least 111 people and injuring hundreds more.
The quake struck several cities across Colombia’s picturesque coffee region and Pacific shortly after 7:30 am (1230 GMT), sending panicked residents onto the streets and damaging at least 1,500 buildings.
