WASHINGTON: Law enforcement agencies in the United States, Canada and Europe have carried out a major coordinated crackdown on transnational organized crime networks, resulting in the arrest of 24 suspects and criminal charges against 37 individuals, according to U.S. authorities.

U.S. officials said the operation, codenamed Operation HARD BALL, targeted three criminal groups allegedly involved in extortion, drug trafficking, targeted killings, kidnappings and arms smuggling.

Large Drug and Weapons Seizure

Authorities said the operation led to the seizure of approximately 1,000 kilograms of cocaine, one kilogram of heroin, large amounts of cash and multiple firearms.

The investigation was conducted with the cooperation of law enforcement agencies across several countries.

FBI Statement

Patrick Grandy, Assistant Director of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, said the criminal organizations had spread violence, fear and instability within parts of the East Indian community in California and other regions.

He said the coordinated action was aimed at dismantling the networks and disrupting their criminal activities.

Charges and Ongoing Investigation

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, criminal charges have been filed against 37 individuals, while 24 suspects have been taken into custody.

The department said that among those charged are two individuals who are currently imprisoned in India but are alleged to have continued directing international criminal networks from prison.

Search for Fugitives Continues

Officials said the search remains underway for 10 fugitives, including one believed to be in Europe, seven in the United States, and two in India.

U.S. authorities also alleged that Lawrence Bishnoi, identified as the suspected leader of one of the criminal groups, continued issuing instructions for criminal operations from an Indian prison using satellite phones and internet communications.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said further arrests and legal proceedings are possible as the operation continues.
