Karachi is expected to face an extremely hot and humid day as sea breezes remain cut off, meteorological analyst Jawad Memon warned on Sunday. According to him, the city will likely experience temperatures ranging from 38°C to 40°C, but due to high humidity, it could feel like 43°C or higher.

Sea Breezes Disrupted

Explaining the weather pattern, Memon said that post-monsoon low pressure over the Indian state of Gujarat has disrupted Karachi’s sea breeze. The system is currently intensifying and could transform into a depression in the coming hours.

This disruption in air flow means that Karachi, which heavily relies on the cooling effect of sea winds, will experience stifling conditions with little relief.

Chances of Rain and Thunderclouds

While Sunday will primarily remain hot, Memon noted that isolated thunderclouds could develop in Karachi’s outskirts later in the day. He further forecast that by September 30, parts of the city might receive light to moderate rainfall.

The system hovering over Gujarat is also expected to shift towards the Arabian Sea, which could influence Karachi’s weather in the coming days.

Public Advisory

Meteorologists have advised Karachi residents to take precautionary measures during this spell of heat. Citizens are urged to:

• Stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, especially in the afternoon.
• Use protective gear such as hats and umbrellas if stepping out.
• Take special care of children, elderly individuals, and people with health conditions sensitive to heat stress.

Karachi, a coastal city, usually benefits from consistent sea breezes that keep temperatures moderate compared to interior Sindh. However, whenever these winds are disrupted due to low-pressure systems in the region, the city becomes prone to heatwaves and extreme discomfort.

The city has witnessed similar episodes in past years, most notably the deadly heatwave of 2015, which claimed thousands of lives due to a prolonged suspension of sea breeze combined with high humidity and power outages.
