Two New Teams Likely to Join PSL—Faisalabad and Gilgit Emerge as Strong Contenders

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is preparing for a major expansion, and according to reliable sources, two new teams may soon be added to the tournament lineup. The names Faisalabad and Gilgit have reportedly emerged as the strongest contenders, with both considered front-runners in the final selection process.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) earlier shortlisted six potential team names for the league’s expansion:
Faisalabad, Gilgit, Sialkot, Hyderabad, Rawalpindi, and Muzaffarabad.
From this list, Faisalabad and Gilgit are now believed to have gained broad consensus due to their regional significance, cricketing history, and market potential.

The PCB has invited formal bids for the two new franchises, a key step toward confirming the expansion ahead of the next PSL season. The introduction of two fresh teams would expand the league from six to eight franchises, a move that could reshape competition dynamics and attract new fans from across the country.

Sources also suggest that the board is simultaneously addressing internal franchise matters. Notably, the dispute between the PCB and the Multan Sultans ownership remains unresolved. This ongoing disagreement has reportedly slowed certain commercial processes, though the board continues to negotiate avenues toward a settlement.

In parallel, the PCB has sent valuation documents to five existing franchises. These valuations will help determine the renewal terms and long-term financial arrangements between the teams and the board. Following the evaluation process, PCB has already extended renewal offers to five franchises, reinforcing its commitment to stabilizing the league’s financial foundation before bringing in new teams.

The possibility of Faisalabad and Gilgit joining the PSL is being viewed as a significant step toward increasing national participation and representation in the league. Faisalabad has long been known as a strong cricketing hub, having produced big national players over the decades. Meanwhile, Gilgit’s inclusion would mark the PSL’s expansion into northern Pakistan, symbolically connecting the cricketing world with the scenic and rapidly developing region.

If finalized, the addition of these two teams will not only enhance the geographical diversity of the PSL but also open new avenues for talent development, sponsorship opportunities, and fan engagement. The PCB is expected to make an official announcement once the bidding and evaluation processes conclude.
