Witnessing how major political parties have adapted their language and mindset is inspiring; they have twisted their dialogue and tone to grab more opportunities within the center, or as they may prolong their tenure as deemed shortened in every talk. They have known the secrets of how to rule and get to be ruled. They have become more flexible and have abandoned their traditional views about provinces, shifting to decentralized approaches. Additionally, federal ministries have delegated some departments to the provinces to maintain equilibrium, harmony, and perceived sustainability. With its large population, Punjab receives a significant amount from the National Finance Commission (NFC) award, which it utilizes to invest in industrial growth and development. To inform you, other provinces have not made any evident progress in the industrial and agricultural sectors, as they still receive less funding from the NFC award than Punjab. However, the federal authorities are committed to addressing inequality issues and ensuring all provinces receive equal funding.

The 18th Amendment was passed in 2010, and the NFC award money was distributed among the provinces from 2008 to 2023. It is imperative to discuss whether the provinces have made reasonable progress and take measures to enhance development efforts. Strengthening the center is crucial to ensure that provinces receive equal attention and that development projects are implemented effectively. The federal authorities aim to supervise all the work and ensure that development projects benefit the entire country, as the same was done in August 2022 in Imran’s era when urban floor stuck the city Karachi at large, the PM announced 1300 billion to the city, but to no avail and city witnessed its worst ever and did not progress as it was foreseen.

The government has set ambitious targets for the next five to ten years to boost crucial sectors such as agriculture, IT, industry, energy, food, and livestock. Although some stakeholders have concerns, the government has taken positive steps, such as listening to the IMF’s recommendations to reduce the burden of IMF loans. To address issues related to provincial representation, the government could conduct a digital poll across the country to enable citizens to participate in the decision-making process. Additionally, empowering provinces to manage essential basic amenities more effectively leads to a brighter and more prosperous future for all. However, there is a disparity among the provinces, and the ratio is increasing in Punjab compared to other provinces.

The equitable distribution of tax revenue collected by provinces is a cornerstone of Pakistan’s financial system. However, there is growing concern that the current practice is flawed. It is time for the center and provinces to work together to create a fair and transparent system that benefits everyone. By designing a system that allows provinces to use their earnings to fulfill their basic needs, we can promote trust and cooperation between the center and provinces. We can build a more prosperous and equitable Pakistan for all.

In Pakistan, we face the challenge of unequal distribution of mineral wealth among provinces. But we must not forget that every province needs resources to thrive. Let’s work together to find ways to distribute wealth more equitably so that every province can have the resources it needs to grow and develop. One potential solution is to allow each province to keep its earned income and pay taxes to the center. This would ensure that provinces have the resources they need to invest in their development while contributing to the greater good of the entire country.

We must take action to safeguard the livelihoods of our people and prevent further exploitation by these organizations (IMF). By working together, we can ensure that our people have access to affordable goods and a fair chance to earn their living. Let us strive towards returning the wealth belonging to the provinces and excluding them from fraudulent schemes of the IMF. This will help alleviate the financial burden on the locals, enabling them to conduct their business without any undue hindrances. We must ensure that our people’s source of revenue is not lost and that there is no negative impact on their lives. Let us inspire each other to take immediate action and work towards a better, fairer future.
