Chief guests at the event will include Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Irrigation Secretary Zarif Khero, Project Director Prem Das, Deputy Director Noor-ul-Arfeen Baloch, Technical Deputy Director Abdul Fattah Memon, and other officials.

Sukkur Barrage, a 100-year-old structure with 66 gates, is one of Asia’s largest canal irrigation systems and provides water to millions of acres of agricultural land in Sindh and Balochistan. The project is being repaired and restored with the assistance of the World Bank.

So far, 16 gates have been fully replaced, and another 28 gates are scheduled to be replaced by November 2025. The new gates are equipped with electro-mechanical systems, allowing for rapid response during floods and emergencies. The completion of this project is expected to improve the performance of the irrigation system, reduce water wastage, and increase agricultural productivity.
