ISLAMABAD: Security forces killed 19 militants during an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan, while 11 security personnel were killed in the exchange of fire, according to security sources.

The sources said the operation targeted militants on the N-25 highway between Jhao Cross and Kararo.

According to the officials, the operation was launched after intelligence indicated the presence of armed militants in the area. During the ensuing exchange of fire, 19 militants were killed, while several others were reportedly injured.

Security sources said the operation also resulted in the deaths of 11 members of the security forces.

The sources alleged that the militants had been engaged in extorting money from passengers and local residents along the highway at the time of the operation.

Authorities said security forces would continue efforts to safeguard the lives and property of the public and ensure the security of major roads across Balochistan.

Security sources added that any attempt by militant groups to disrupt peace and stability in the province would be met with a strong response.
