Three more detained in Lahore police targeted killing case

LAHORE: Three more people have been detained in connection with the targeted killing of three police officers in Lahore, taking the total number of people in custody in the case to five.

Those detained include the daughter of the alleged main suspect and a rickshaw driver suspected of facilitating the suspects.

According to investigative sources, the 21-year-old daughter of the main suspect had studied at the same seminary where her elder brother was enrolled. Investigators are conducting a forensic examination of her mobile phone and social media accounts.

A rickshaw driver from Manawan has also been detained. Investigators said he had transported the suspects from Badami Bagh to Nawan Kot.

The investigation has also revealed that the main suspect’s elder son had allegedly targeted two police officers in 2024 after being released from prison. He was later killed in an alleged encounter.

Police officials have linked the targeted killings to members of the same family over the past two years as a case study.

Investigators are also questioning other family members of the father-and-son suspects, along with two police officers who were allegedly in contact with them.

The mobile phone records and social media accounts of the detained police officers are being examined as part of the investigation.

Police said efforts are also underway to trace an accomplice of the main suspects who remains at large.

Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector Adeel Ashiq, who was martyred in the Badami Bagh attack, was laid to rest at Masoomia graveyard on Bund Road. DIG Operations Faisal Kamran, other police officers and personnel, and the martyr’s family members attended the funeral prayers.
