A fleet of 52 newly purchased buses for the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project is ready to be shipped to Pakistan, marking a major step towards expanding public transport services in the provincial capital.

According to Trans Peshawar, the procurement of the new buses has been carried out on the instructions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to strengthen the BRT fleet and provide improved travel facilities to commuters.

With the arrival of the new vehicles, the total number of buses in the BRT fleet will increase to 296. Officials said the first batch of 25 buses is expected to arrive in Pakistan in early July, while the remaining buses will be delivered in phases.

The additional buses will operate on both the main BRT corridor and feeder routes, increasing service capacity, reducing passenger waiting times and helping accommodate the growing number of daily commuters.

Trans Peshawar also announced that the induction of the new buses will pave the way for the launch of a dedicated pink bus service for women. Under the initiative, specially designated buses will be reserved exclusively for female passengers, providing a safer, more comfortable and convenient travel environment during peak hours.

The transport authority revealed that work is underway to introduce new BRT routes to expand access to safe, reliable and high-quality public transport services across Peshawar.

Trans Peshawar stated that the expansion of the BRT fleet reflects its continued commitment to meeting the city’s growing transportation needs under the guidance of its Board of Directors, Secretary Transport Muhammad Zubair and KPUMA Managing Director Iftikhar Khan.
