Young Trader Killed During Robbery in Rohri; City Shuts Down in Protest, Locals Demand Justice

Rohri: Young Trader Killed During Robbery, Wife Seriously Injured – Citywide Strike and Protest Rally

Rohri (Reporter): A tragic incident occurred late Sunday night near the residence of Sindh Energy Minister and PPP leader Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, at Lala Shahzada Chowk on Karbala Maidan Road in the jurisdiction of Rohri Police Station, where a young trader was killed during a robbery attempt.

According to sources, an unidentified armed man broke into the house of Bilawal Bhatti, son of local businessman Rehmatullah alias Mehrab Bhatti. The assailant reportedly entered through the rooftop via an electricity pole. Armed with a knife, the intruder attacked the couple while they were asleep in the courtyard.

Both Bilawal and his wife Aneela Bhatti sustained serious injuries during the attack. In a brutal act of violence, the attacker threw Bilawal off the third floor, causing him critical injuries. Hearing the wife’s screams, neighbors and security guards posted at Minister Nasir Hussain Shah’s residence rushed to the scene. They surrounded the assailant and forced him to come down from the roof. The locals then apprehended him and handed him over to the police.

Subsequently, police claimed that during a search operation in the Jari Mau area, suspects opened fire on the police party. In retaliation, police returned fire, during which one alleged robber was killed. He was later identified as Habdar Ali Sheikh, a resident of Nandhi Patni. Police further stated that there were four culprits involved; one was killed, and three managed to escape. A pistol and bullets were recovered from the deceased, according to their statement.

However, local residents expressed doubts over the police’s version of events and demanded a transparent investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, Bilawal Bhatti, who was initially taken to a private hospital in Sukkur in critical condition, was being shifted to Karachi due to his deteriorating health. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

The tragic death of the young businessman sparked outrage throughout Rohri. News of his passing spread rapidly, casting a pall of mourning over the city. In response, local traders observed a complete shutter-down strike on Monday, closing all commercial centers. Protest rallies and demonstrations were organized by citizens, traders, political, social, and religious leaders at the old bus stand.

Participants strongly condemned the incident and chanted slogans demanding justice. They called upon Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, DIG Sukkur Faisal Abdullah Chachar, and SSP Sukkur Azhar Khan Mughal to take urgent and effective action against rising criminal activities in Rohri. Protesters highlighted that people no longer feel safe even inside their own homes due to increasing incidents of robbery, theft, and violence. They blamed the police for failing to maintain law and order.

The demonstrators urged that the police system must be reformed, law enforcement must be held accountable, and strict surveillance and crackdowns against criminals should be initiated so that the people of Rohri can once again live in peace and security.
