Islamabad (Thursday, July 17, 2025): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has established a special committee to regulate the sugar sector in Pakistan.

The committee will formulate reliable proposals for reforms and privatization in the sugar industry. The Energy Minister has been appointed as the chairman of the committee, while the Secretary of Industries and Production will serve as its convener.

The committee will also include the Finance Minister, Minister for National Food Security and Research, and Minister for Economic Affairs. Additionally, Special Assistant Rana Naseem (former secretary) and Agriculture Coordinator Ahmed Umar will be part of the team.

The committee will review legislation, policies, sugar production, import, and export matters. It will also provide policy recommendations focused on consumer rights and business needs. Moreover, it will propose measures to protect consumers and prevent extreme price fluctuations.

The committee is expected to submit its report to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif within 30 days.
