Pakistan’s national space agency, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), has issued its prediction regarding the sighting of the Rabi-ul-Awwal 1447 Hijri moon. According to the statement, astronomical calculations strongly suggest that the moon will likely be visible in Pakistan on August 24, 2025.

Birth of the New Moon

The SUPARCO spokesperson explained that the birth of the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon is expected to occur on August 23, 2025, at 11:06 AM (Pakistan Standard Time). By the evening of August 24, the age of the new moon will be 32 hours and 13 minutes, which makes visibility highly probable.

Chances of Moon Sighting

The spokesperson further elaborated that along Pakistan’s coastal areas, the time difference between sunset and moonset will be about 45 minutes on August 24. This time gap is considered sufficient for clear moon sighting under normal weather conditions.

Based on these calculations, national-level visibility of the crescent is expected on the evening of August 24.

Islamic Calendar Dates

If the moon is indeed sighted as predicted, the first day of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1447 Hijri will fall on Monday, August 25, 2025. Consequently, 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal—the day Muslims commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him)—will be observed on Friday, September 5, 2025.

Final Decision with Ruet-e-Hilal Committee

While SUPARCO provides scientific predictions based on astronomical data, the agency clarified that the final and official decision regarding the moon sighting rests with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan. The committee will make its announcement after reviewing testimonies and observational data on the day of the expected sighting.

Conclusion

The forecast indicates that Pakistani Muslims can expect to celebrate 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal on September 5, 2025 (Friday), but as always, the ultimate confirmation will depend on the official announcement by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
