President of Sukkur Chamber of Commerce Meets Media Delegation: Detailed Discussion on Green City Project and Expo Convention
Sukkur (Danish Rajput): Khalid Khan Kakazai, President of the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce, held a key meeting with a delegation of journalists, during which they discussed in detail the business, trade, and economic affairs of Sukkur.
During the meeting, Khalid Khan Kakazai emphasized the critical role of the business community in Pakistan’s economy, describing traders as the “backbone” of the national economy. He noted that, despite paying 45% in taxes along with an additional 15% super tax, the trader community continues to actively contribute to the country’s economic growth.
Kakazai stressed that government and traders must work together to further strengthen and develop Pakistan’s economy. “Only through cooperation between the authorities and the business sector can the nation achieve sustainable economic growth,” he said.
Discussion on Local Issues
The meeting also focused on various economic and trade-related challenges faced by Sukkur, with journalists gaining insights into ongoing initiatives aimed at improving commercial infrastructure and facilitating business operations in the region. Khalid Khan highlighted that the Chamber is working closely with local authorities to ensure that trade-related concerns are addressed effectively.
He stated that the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce stands firmly with traders, supporting their efforts to enhance productivity and competitiveness. “Despite heavy taxation, the business community remains committed to playing a proactive role in national development,” he added.
Green City Project
One of the central topics discussed was the Green City project, which aims to transform key areas of Sukkur’s industrial zone into greener, more sustainable urban spaces. Khalid Khan explained that the project involves phased beautification of major roads, including tree plantation, creation of green belts, and aesthetic improvements along both sides of the streets.
“The district administration and industrial property owners are fully aligned on this initiative,” he said, highlighting that the collaboration between public authorities and private stakeholders is key to the project’s success. The Green City project is expected to enhance the industrial area’s appeal, reduce environmental stress, and create a more business-friendly urban landscape.
Upcoming Expo Convention
Khalid Khan also shared details about a major Expo Convention scheduled to take place in Sukkur on February 14. He noted that the event will attract international participants, while over 30 individuals will join virtually via video link, making it a hybrid event with global outreach.
“This Expo Convention will be a significant milestone for Sukkur’s commercial growth and investment promotion,” he said. “It will provide a platform to showcase local industries, attract foreign investment, and strengthen trade linkages at both national and international levels.”
The convention, according to Kakazai, will highlight Sukkur’s potential as a regional trade and investment hub, demonstrating the city’s capacity to host events of international standard. Participants will also have the opportunity to interact with local business leaders, government officials, and entrepreneurs, paving the way for new partnerships and economic collaborations.
Emphasis on Public-Private Collaboration
Throughout the meeting, Khalid Khan emphasized the importance of public-private collaboration in driving economic development. He pointed out that successful implementation of projects like Green City and large-scale expos requires continuous engagement between government agencies, local authorities, and the business community.
“The progress of Sukkur’s economy depends not only on individual efforts but also on the synergy between traders and government departments,” Kakazai said. “Through collaboration, we can address infrastructure challenges, improve business facilities, and attract meaningful investments.”
Trade Sector Contribution and Challenges
Kakazai also underlined the financial contribution of Sukkur’s trade community. Despite paying substantial taxes, traders continue to invest in their businesses and participate in initiatives aimed at regional economic development. However, he acknowledged challenges such as bureaucratic hurdles, infrastructure gaps, and the need for streamlined support from local authorities to maximize economic potential.
He expressed confidence that with strategic planning, modern initiatives, and cooperative governance, Sukkur could emerge as a thriving center for trade and industry in Sindh.
Conclusion
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to promote Sukkur’s economic growth, attract investment, and improve the city’s commercial infrastructure. Khalid Khan Kakazai reaffirmed the Chamber of Commerce’s dedication to working alongside both the government and the private sector to achieve these goals.
The Green City initiative and the upcoming Expo Convention are expected to serve as key milestones in Sukkur’s journey toward sustainable economic development, positioning the city as a model for public-private collaboration in Sindh and across Pakistan.
