Washington: US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to India, stating that if New Delhi does not cooperate on the Russian oil issue, the United States may increase tariffs on Indian goods.
According to international news agency Reuters, President Trump, speaking during an address, said that Washington is closely monitoring India’s stance on Russian oil. He emphasized that if India does not align with US expectations regarding Russian oil, tariff hikes could follow.
This statement comes at a time when the US and India are engaged in ongoing trade negotiations, adding further tension to bilateral economic discussions.
Previously, President Trump had claimed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured him that India would stop purchasing Russian oil, although no official confirmation from the Indian side has been provided regarding this commitment.
