The political landscape of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has entered a decisive phase, as the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has initiated efforts to form a new government in the region. According to reliable sources, PPP Co-Chairman and President Asif Ali Zardari has held a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the evolving political situation and the formation of a coalition government in AJK.

During the conversation, President Zardari reportedly took Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif into confidence regarding the PPP’s strategy and decision to pursue government formation in Azad Kashmir. In response, Prime Minister Shehbaz assigned the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Committee on Azad Kashmir Affairs the task of engaging in formal talks with the PPP to finalize power-sharing arrangements.

Sources indicate that the PML-N committee comprises senior party leaders Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, and Amir Muqam. Before entering into direct negotiations with the PPP, the committee has begun internal consultations with the PML-N’s Azad Kashmir chapter to assess ground realities and align positions on potential alliances and policy priorities.
