Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Jeddah Tower, set to become the world’s tallest building, has reached a significant stage of construction, with reports confirming that around 100 floors have now been completed.

Once finished, the skyscraper is expected to rise to a height of approximately 3,280 feet (over 1 kilometre), surpassing Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, which currently holds the record at 2,722 feet with 163 floors.

The project, originally announced in 2008, saw construction begin in 2013. However, work was halted in 2018 due to financial and logistical challenges, and progress remained suspended for several years. Construction resumed in 2025, bringing renewed momentum to the landmark project.

According to the project developers, more than 50% of the structure has now been completed, marking a major breakthrough in its long-delayed timeline. The tower is currently expected to be fully completed by August 2028.

Jeddah Tower is being designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture—the same firm behind the Burj Khalifa. The design includes a mixed-use structure featuring a luxury hotel, residential apartments, office spaces, and an outdoor observation deck that will be the highest in the world.

The building will also incorporate advanced engineering systems, including 59 elevators—54 single-deck and 5 double-deck lifts—along with 12 escalators to manage vertical transportation efficiently in the record-breaking structure.

Engineers are also focusing on energy-efficient façade systems designed to reduce energy consumption by optimizing airflow and heat management, which is crucial for a building of such unprecedented height.

Despite earlier delays caused by funding issues and the COVID-19 pandemic, renewed construction efforts have brought the project back on track. When construction was previously paused, roughly one-third of the structure had already been completed.

The estimated cost of the Jeddah Tower project ranges between $1.2 billion and $2.7 billion, reflecting its scale and engineering complexity.

Once completed, Jeddah Tower is expected to redefine global architectural standards and symbolize Saudi Arabia’s growing investment in mega infrastructure and futuristic urban development.
