Kabul: Former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran has passed away after battling cancer, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed.

According to reports, Zadran had been undergoing treatment for cancer at a hospital in India, where he succumbed to the illness.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board expressed deep sorrow over his passing and paid tribute to his contributions to the country’s cricket.

In an official statement, the ACB described Shapoor Zadran as one of the pioneers of Afghan cricket who played a significant role in the national team’s rise on the international stage.

The board also announced that details regarding his funeral prayers and burial arrangements would be shared later in consultation with his family.

Shapoor Zadran was among the early generation of Afghan cricketers who helped establish the country’s presence in international cricket. Known for his left-arm fast bowling and ability to generate pace and swing, he represented Afghanistan in numerous international matches and was part of the team’s historic journey through the ranks of world cricket.

Throughout his career, Zadran played in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), contributing to several memorable victories as Afghanistan emerged as a competitive force in international cricket.
