The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rain for the coming days. According to the latest PMD update, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in upper Punjab, the Pothohar region, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir. The ongoing monsoon system is drawing moisture from the Arabian Sea, which is contributing to the increasing rainfall activity in these areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cities that may receive heavy showers include Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Murree, Abbottabad, Peshawar, and Muzaffarabad. The PMD has warned that heavy rainfall at times could lead to urban flooding in vulnerable areas, especially in major cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. Authorities have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautionary measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to the northern and upper parts of the country, the southern coastal belt is also expected to experience rainfall activity. The PMD has stated that the weather in Sindh\u2019s coastal areas\u2014including Karachi, Thatta, Badin, and Hyderabad\u2014is likely to remain partly cloudy with chances of light rain or drizzle over the next 24 to 48 hours. The light rainfall is not expected to cause any major disturbance, but it may help lower the temperature in the otherwise hot and humid southern regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Karachi\u2019s weather, in particular, has been under the spotlight due to its unpredictable nature during the monsoon season. Though the city often receives less rainfall compared to the north, when it does rain, it tends to impact daily life due to poor drainage infrastructure. However, as of now, no major waterlogging or flooding has been reported from any area of Karachi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The weather department has advised citizens, especially those residing in low-lying areas, to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours. Motorcyclists and pedestrians have been urged to take extra care on slippery roads, while local authorities have been instructed to ensure that drainage systems are functioning properly to avoid urban flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On a more serious note, the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) in Lahore has issued a warning regarding river flows. According to the FFD, the Indus River is currently experiencing low-level flooding at Guddu and Sukkur barrages. The water inflow in these areas has increased, leading to minor flood conditions. However, there is no immediate threat of a high flood, and the situation is being closely monitored by the relevant authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Apart from the Indus, all other major rivers\u2014including the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej\u2014are flowing at normal levels at their respective headworks. The FFD has assured the public that the overall flood situation remains under control for now, although further rainfall in the catchment areas could lead to a rise in river water levels in the coming days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) have been alerted and instructed to remain on standby in case of any emergency. Relief teams have also been mobilized in flood-prone areas, especially near the Indus River, where low-lying villages could be affected if the water level continues to rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Farmers and residents living near riverbanks have been advised to stay informed through official weather and flood bulletins and to move to safer locations if water levels increase. The government has also reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens through timely coordination and emergency response measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
