A Dream Fulfilled After 33 Years

Popularly known as the “King of Bollywood,” Shah Rukh Khan began his acting career in 1992 with the film Deewana, and over the years, he has delivered one iconic performance after another. His work in beloved classics like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, My Name is Khan, and Chak De! India has earned him the adoration of audiences not just in India but globally.

Despite his immense popularity and multiple international accolades, Shah Rukh Khan had never received India’s prestigious National Film Award — until now.

While he has collected numerous awards such as Filmfare, IIFA, and international recognitions from countries like France (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and Legion of Honour), the National Award had eluded him — a fact that puzzled both critics and fans for years.

But this year, his powerful and layered performance in “Jawan” finally brought that chapter to a close.

The decision to jointly award the two actors reflected the jury’s appreciation for different spectrums of acting—from Shah Rukh’s commercial mass appeal and transformation in “Jawan”, to Massey’s understated, grounded portrayal in a socially rooted story.
