Karachi – Renowned Pakistani singer and songwriter Ashal Khan has opened up about the moving and emotional story behind one of his most popular songs, “Laut Aa”, revealing how a deeply personal experience, combined with a musical inspiration from a friend, led to the creation of the heartfelt track.

In a recent appearance on Geo Podcast, Ashal Khan shared insights into his musical journey, his creative process, and the core philosophy behind his music. Speaking candidly, he explained that for him, music isn’t just about creating catchy melodies or accumulating views online — it’s about telling a story that resonates with people.

“It’s not enough to just write a song and get views,” Ashal emphasized.
“What really matters is — what story are we telling our audience?”

The Story Behind “Laut Aa”

Recalling how his 2023 song “Laut Aa” came to life, Ashal said that the composition originated in an unexpected and organic way. It all began when he posted a short video on Instagram of himself playing guitar — a casual moment, with no specific intention of turning it into a full-fledged track.

One of his close friends, who is also a music producer, saw the reel and became inspired. Using the short melody from Ashal’s video, his friend developed a musical arrangement, or “saaz” (instrumental track), and sent it back to him.

“When I heard the composition my friend created, I was genuinely shocked,” Ashal shared.
“I couldn’t believe he had turned that small guitar piece into something so soulful and powerful. It blew me away.”

His friend encouraged him to build something on top of it — to write lyrics and turn it into a song.

Around the same time, Ashal had a deeply emotional experience. One day, he saw his sister missing their late mother, who had passed away. The pain and longing on her face struck a chord in him. That image stayed in his mind, and when he went to the office that day, he couldn’t concentrate on work.

“My mind was completely occupied,” he said.
“There was my friend’s music playing in my head, and then the image of my sister missing our mother. I just couldn’t focus on anything else.”

It was then that inspiration struck. Ashal abandoned his work, sat down, and poured his emotions onto paper. In a single sitting, he wrote the complete lyrics to “Laut Aa” — a song that speaks of loss, longing, and the hope of reunion.

Music with Meaning

For Ashal Khan, this creative process highlighted something very important: authenticity in music. He believes that the audience can sense when an artist is being real — when the emotions in the lyrics are truly felt and not just fabricated for the sake of a hit song.

“Listeners today are smart,” he said.
“They don’t just want a beat they can dance to. They want music that says something. Music that reflects what they’re feeling.”

In a world where social media trends and viral songs often dominate the charts, Ashal’s approach stands out. He doesn’t chase algorithms — he chases meaning. And “Laut Aa” is a perfect example of that philosophy. The song quickly resonated with audiences, not just because of its melody, but because of its raw emotional core.

A Career Rooted in Storytelling

Throughout the podcast, Ashal also shared how his music career began. From playing guitar in his room to writing and recording original songs, it’s been a journey of self-expression and evolution.

He acknowledged that the road hasn’t always been easy. There have been moments of doubt, creative blocks, and the pressures of the industry. But he’s always returned to one central belief: Music must come from the heart.

He also spoke about the power of collaboration, especially with close friends and family. The story of “Laut Aa” was not just about him — it was about his friend who helped shape the music, and his sister who unintentionally inspired the lyrics.

“Sometimes, a song is not just yours,” he said.
“It belongs to everyone who influenced it, who felt it, and who connected with it.”

Looking Ahead

As for the future, Ashal Khan is excited about what lies ahead. He’s currently working on new music projects, with a focus on songs that explore themes of love, grief, healing, and identity. He wants to continue making music that not only entertains but also heals and connects people.

He also expressed interest in collaborating with artists across borders and genres, and hopes to experiment with new sounds without compromising on emotional depth.

“I want to push the boundaries of what Pakistani music can be,” he said.
“But at the same time, I want every song to feel like a conversation with the listener.”

Final Thoughts

Ashal Khan’s appearance on the podcast served as a refreshing reminder that music is much more than just a product — it is an art form rooted in human experiences. His story behind “Laut Aa” shows that some of the most impactful songs are born from personal pain and genuine emotions.

In a world of fast-paced content and fleeting trends, Ashal’s work is a testament to the timeless power of storytelling through music.
