The event drew a sizable public turnout and saw the presence of senior officials from various departments, as well as representatives of the WAPDA Hydro Electric Workers Union.

Notable participants included officials from the Power Operation Division (POD), SEPCO Director Commercial Asad Mughal, Assistant Commissioner Rohri Zahoor Noonari, Assistant Commissioner Sukkur Muzaffar Ali, XEN Sukkur Nizamuddin Pirzada, SDO Asif Dayo, Mushtaq Qureshi, Waheed Korai, and Waqar Ahmed Shah, along with representatives from the Line Staff (LS), Line Management (LM), and Maintenance (MNT) wings. Their presence signaled the seriousness of the administration in addressing public concerns.

During the event, officials highlighted the purpose of the open forum: to listen directly to the grievances of the public and offer on-the-spot resolutions where possible. They emphasized their commitment to improving service delivery, ensuring transparency, and strengthening public confidence in WAPDA and SEPCO operations.

However, what unfolded was a vivid demonstration of long-standing frustration among citizens. A large number of attendees came forward to register complaints about persistent issues such as excessive and incorrect billing, delays in new electricity connections, long outages caused by faulty transformers, and low voltage problems that have gone unaddressed for months. Many also raised concerns about delayed service response and the lack of accountability among field staff.

One resident, clearly agitated, remarked, “We have complained multiple times about voltage drops in our area. Appliances get damaged, children suffer in the heat, but no one comes to fix it. All we hear are empty promises.”

Another complainant mentioned, “The transformer in our neighborhood blew out last week, and despite several calls, no one has come to replace it. We are living in darkness.”

The officials patiently listened to the public’s outpouring of grievances and responded with assurances that each complaint would be logged and addressed promptly. SEPCO Director Commercial Asad Mughal assured the crowd that immediate action would be taken wherever possible and that a proper follow-up mechanism was being put in place. “We are maintaining a record of every complaint filed here today. All cases will be prioritized and monitored until they are resolved,” he said.

XEN Sukkur Nizamuddin Pirzada also emphasized the importance of accountability and pledged that any delays or negligence by staff would result in disciplinary action.

To further build public trust, the officials announced that regular open katcheris would now be held to maintain communication between departments and the citizens they serve. They also assured that follow-up meetings would be arranged to evaluate the progress of complaint resolution.

Despite these assurances, many attendees remained skeptical, stating that such forums had been held in the past with little to no impact. “This isn’t the first time they’ve heard us out. But when the crowd disperses, the promises fade,” said another resident.

The event ended with a renewed pledge from the administration to uphold public trust, improve performance, and ensure that complaints are not only heard but acted upon with urgency. For now, all eyes remain on whether these verbal commitments will translate into real results on the ground.

Report by: [Danish Rajput] To ease public difficulties and build trust between service providers and consumers, WAPDA (Water and Power Development Authority) organized an Open Katcheri at Shalimar Arts Council Sukkur.
