Recently, there has been a sharp surge in sugar prices, with rates reaching or even exceeding Rs. 200 per kilogram in several cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to the crisis, the government has decided to import 500,000 metric tons of sugar, and a formal tender has already been issued for the procurement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First official tender issued for importing 500,000 metric tons of sugar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Addressing the issue on social media, Fawad Hassan Fawad criticized the government\u2019s decision and called for an immediate review of the $300 million sugar import plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He stated that the biggest consumers of sugar are not the common people, but the food and beverage industry \u2014 the very same groups that previously benefited from export permits and are now involved in the import process as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The former caretaker minister further claimed that these entities first profited immensely from price fluctuations and exports, and now stand to benefit again from the imports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Fawad Hassan Fawad asserted that the government\u2019s failure to control prices is not a valid justification for importing sugar.
